alas! Book & Coffee is a bookstore/coffee shop that was created to feel as though there were a history behind it—like a story. The Old English “Alas!” exclamation was used as a draw for the literates. The hand drawn mosaic quality makes you wonder about the history—what culture is it, why is the mosaic handrawn, what is the tie to the exclamation “alas”, etc. This creates a multitude of stories and backdrops that could be possible, and open to interpretation.
